You can take an Island Tour
St. Thomas is known for its beautiful vistas, historic buildings, scenic drives and gorgeous scenery. How you take it all in is up to you. The most popular option is an island tour by taxi, but there are numerous walking tours available that will show you the historical sites. There are even aerial tours.
You can go Scuba Diving
Explore corals and tropical fish close-up. Swim among turtles, parrotfish, blue tangs and so much more. Dive operators are familiar with the various dive locations and can safely guide you to and around them. They can take you out for the first time, teach you to dive, get you certified and instruct you in higher levels of dive certification.
There are Eco-Tours and Park Adventures available
Explore the wonderful natural environment around St. Thomas by taking a guided kayak, hiking or snorkeling adventure trip into ecologically fascinating areas. Tours typically include a guide that describes history, ecology and fauna as you go along. You can also enjoy guided tours through neighboring National Park areas like Hassel Island and St. John and through various reserves.
You can go Fishing
Some 21 world records in fishing have been set in recent years in the Virgin Islands,
evidence of the amazing experiences that are in store for anglers! Take an offshore fishing charter and test your luck at catching a marlin or enjoy a few hours of inshore fishing for snook and bonefish.
You can go Hiking
The Virgin Islands National Park on St. John is a short ferry ride away from St. Thomas (15 or 45 minutes, depending on where you depart from). In the National Park there are over 20 hiking trails. They vary in length and difficulty. Guided hikes are available.
You can go Island Hopping
The Virgin Islands (USVI and BVI) are made up of more than 120 islands and cays. There are eight inhabited islands, four in the U.S. Virgin Islands and four in the British Virgin Islands. Each island has it's own unique atmosphere. Ferry service and inter-island air travel makes island hopping possible.
You can go Parasailing
Parasailing is a high-flying sport and offers a great way to view the islands from the air and the sea. Parasailers sit in a harness attached to a parachute that lifts off from a boat deck. Soon the person is sailing high in the air, soaring to heights of 500 feet. You can parasail at most beach resorts, or make arrangements by phone.
You can play Golf and Tennis
The Virgin Islands are home to four golf courses, the best of which is located on site: the Caret Bay Run Golf Course. Tennis courts are available at most island resorts.
You can go Horseback Riding
However, you'll have to go to St. John. On St. John, horses and donkeys can be rented for trail, sunset and full moon rides. Trail rides on St. John are generally on the east end of the island through semi-dry forest trails and typically last 2 to 3 hours. St. John is a short ferry ride away from St. Thomas.
You can go Surfing, Windsurfing and Kitesurfing (or Kiteboarding)
While many people come to the Virgin Islands for beaches, snorkeling, sailing, scuba diving and a great number of other water sports, the waters around the islands also beckon surfers to challenge the waves and winds!
There are Jet Skis and Kayak Rentals
Jet skis are available in single and double riders and are often rented out by the ½ hour at local beach front resorts, for example Sapphire Beach Resort, Morningstar Beach Resort and Wyndham Sugar Bay Resort. They are also available at Coki Point. Prices are around $45-$50 for 30 minutes. Kayak rentals are available at many beach resorts.
There are a limited number of Bike Rentals and Tours
St. Thomas is quite mountainous. Bike tours do not exist and rentals are limited. There is a bike tour on Water Island. It begins at an old underground fort and continues around the island, ending at the beach. Water Island is a short ferry ride from St. Thomas (10 minutes).
There is Gaming
There are video slot machines in independent locations, primarily at bars and restaurants, all over St. Thomas and two gaming centers. There are no casinos on St. Thomas; the only casino in the U.S. Virgin Islands is on St. Croix.
There are Cultural and Local Events
Culture in the Virgin Islands is Caribbean meets American, so plan on enjoying it by taking in a local event, trying local food or listening to a local band perform.
You can visit a Spa
Several spas on island offer massages, body wraps, facials and an assortment of other services to help you pamper yourself while on island. Private masseuses are also available.
You can go Whale Watching
Whales migrating from the North Atlantic are sometimes seen in the waters around the Virgin Islands (roughly December through March). The humpback whale is most likely to be spotted. Educational whale watching excursions are typically announced by environmental groups a few weeks prior to their intended outing. Such tours are most popular around February-March.
